How many 17 year old high school dropouts do you know earn $70,000 a month? Probably not any I’m guessing, so let me introduce you to one. Her name is Ashley Qualls, a teenage entrepreneur from Detroit, who has made an amazing amount of money from selling MySpace layouts on her website Whateverlife.
Fastcompany recently published an extensive article on Ashley, which talks about her recent rejection of a $1.5 million buyout offer.
According to Google Analytics, Whateverlife attracts more than 7 million individuals and 60 million page views a month. That’s a larger audience than the circulations of Seventeen, Teen Vogue, and CosmoGirl! magazines combined. Although Web-site rankings vary with the methodology, Quantcast, a popular source among advertisers, ranked Whateverlife.com a staggering No. 349 in mid-July out of more than 20 million sites.
Not bad for a girl who doesn’t even have her driver’s license yet!

So here she is making huge money at just 17, while I’m still working my a** off trying to get by! :(
I wouldn’t have even thought of doing something like this at her age. Good for her. :)

I wasn’t even working at 17. I was still playing tons of video games. I knew I should’ve gotten off my butt and did something. :(

70K/yr just for a myspace layout designer. That’s quite sad considering how much people out there in the world that’s poor and working their butts off just to feed their family.

First 17 year old i know to earn $70k a month. Thats some serious cash if you ask me, I mean, some people make that amount in 1 year at age 17. That is pretty lucky, but I guess for those who think they could have done what she has, well, I guess that million dollar idea didn’t hit you hard enough for you to start the business.

really impressive. Here, in slovakia, i can work for 5-9$ / hour and it is very good salary for 18 years old student. so, i must spend in work 10.000 hours if i want to coordinate to her.

wow, that sure beats flipping burgers! ;) i know there was a blogger whose daughter did something similar with her neopets hobby (not at $70,000 though). she received income from her google ads. she said it was great to be able to sleep at night while making money…
cheers,

She was smart to hit the Myspace market. Similar to Myspace, Youtube is another largely growing market and Ipods were an enormous trend and is still growing. Develop any products for those and you’re a big hit! Good for her.

On the same topic as social networks, Facebook isn’t a network that allows room for personal customization; however, it does implement all those applications. Just recently a person from deviantart released a deviantart skin for facebook, customizing all those small tibits to the big things. It deals with css coding, and the stylish extension for for Firefox is required. The skin is only shown for the person who installed the skin, only you can see it. Thats the drawback of the skin. You can customize it to your personal preferences and change the font if you don’t like the default.

It’s a great addon to the facebook community only if you the extra time to play around with all that code. :)

claps for her, unbelievably Peer-to-Peer networking such as Myspace empowers her to produce her own made layouts
which gives her tonnes of money
wow, now that’s a business.

Wow, she even beats John Chow, the famous blogger that every blogger should know. Currently JohnChow is only making $30,000 a month and he did it takes him five years to do it. I wonder how did she do it when I check the site, it looks like a normal myspace site.
I’m only earning more than $100 a month. When can I earn that much? I bet this has to do something Myspace being the most crowded site on the internet today.
