I found out first hand how my body armor failed to protect these key areas. I am currently recovering from 5 broken ribs from a snowboarding accident. If I didn't have on my helmet and body armor I probably wouldn't be typing this right now. It takes some of the pain out of crashing. Like taking a hit while wearing football pads. Im landing 1260's and double rodeos now. Without body armor...i'd be hurten. The only problem is that the shoulders make me look like a line backer. I put my jacket over it and I look like frankenstein. are their any that other body armors suites that offer good protection without the big shoulders? I know one guy would have made good use of that, "before" he injured his spleen off a jump. Still, really good guys won't want to use it because they are "really good" and this thing would deflate their ego too :). ... I think only really really extreme backcountry types who do extreme skiing/boarding would use this. Which would be a small fraction of the population I would imagine. that thing must cost a fortune.
