Dell Adamo Tries to Outdo Apple’s MacBook Air

Dell Adamo

Dell’s design crew has flexed their muscles and released the Dell Adamo — a super thin (.65-nches thick at it’s thickest point) laptop aimed squarely at Apple’s MacBook Air.

Adamo’s stylish features include a chassis milled from a single piece of aluminum, like the MacBook Air; a scalloped backlit keyboard, an edge-to-edge glass display, and a choice of onyx or pearl colors

The baseline Adamo version includes a low-power 1.2-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor and a more expensive model with a 1.4-GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400 chip. Both processors fall short of tehe Air’s 1.6-GHz Core 2 Duo and 1.86-GHz Core 2 Duo configurations.

The Air also has a more powerful graphics with the Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics processor versus Adamo’s Intel GS45 integrated graphics.

The starting price is $1,999, which is more than the Air, which starts at $1,799.

Dell has clearly failed to deliver a competitive or ground breaking product.

    I dislike the look already from looking at the cover. They should have kept it clean like the bottom portion of the cover, or went with the pattern all the way, and move that chrome strip to the bottom. I also prefer laptops with an equal fold, the hinges are very obvious on this one, and there’s a slight chunk from the back when you open the laptop…

    Round 1 Fight:

    Air Wins!

    -> No Contest.

    As Allan said, Air wins with flying colors.

    agreed – the Mac Air kills the Adamo.

    i dont know how dell can put lower spec tech into a more expensive machine that is released 6+ months after it’s competitor and hope to compete. dell you failed.

    And both STILL do not have an optical drive. The Intel Atom and GS45 in the Adamo does cost more and gives it less power consumtion and heat output. Anybody mention the amount of programs that are far more available on a Windows computer?

    haha who needs optical drives these days. With HDD sizes like 500 GB and 1 TB, a virtual drive is much more convenient.

    It’s a shame Dell isn’t trying to be a pioneer in this field. Apple is doing way better. I’d have to say, Asus has quite a few interesting concepts! Went to CeBit (sorta like a European CES) and Asus has got these dual panel touchscreens and laptops inspired by origami which sound awesome.

    FAIL

    Have fun trying to install light games or rip a DVD. An optical drive is a standard today and not to mention large HDDs would kill the battery life, be slow, and SSDs available today have an abysmal amount of storage space, the costs are still high, and trying to fit media into SSDs and play them will kill the SSD fast.
