A recent study found that the omega-3s in fish can fire up your metabolism and slow down fat storage.
“They improve insulin response by stimulating the release of leptin, a hormone that helps regular food intake and metabolism,” says Lisa Dorfman, R.D., an adjunct professor at the University of Miami.
This just gave me another reason to eat sushi. Not that I needed one of course!
The sushi is the pic looks so yummy! :D
I don’t know about that… how about all those mercury in the salmon? :P can’t never get too fish about that (no pun intended) What a trade off. :D
I always knew Omega-3 is beneficial, but i never realized in what ways. So it speeds up metabolism and slows down fat storage. Just another great excuse to go out for sushi!
TO THE SUSHI BAR!! :P
yum yum!!
thumbs up for sushi!
my mouth is watering

Hate to be the devil’s advocate, but I studies like this always smell fishy to me (pun intended). Omega 3 is almost universally agreed to be beneficial, but – keep in mind I haven’t read this specific study – some of these studies tend to not give the complete truth, especially as filtered through news sites and blogs (sorry Terry). By all means eat your essential fatty acids for health reasons, but please don’t expect this to have any noticeable impact on your dieting or exercising progress.
Though… that picture looks delicious. Sushi buffet tomorrow, definitely :)
agreed with the other people who think this post is somewhat misleading. altho, hopefully people don’t read blogs (especially this one) for health benefits. at best it’s a place to find trendy info to blurb about to people who are waiting to use the treadmill at the gym.
par for the course, lately..and unfortunately.
probaly time to take this site off my bookmarks, actually.
I don’t understand how I’m being misleading about another benefit that has just come out of a study for omega-3s? I find no harm passing this information along and although the effects on weight loss may be small, it creates awareness in those who may have never known about omega-3s at all.
The primary source is fish (yes, some fish have certain toxic mercury levels), but in general it’s a very safe and healthy source of omega-3s if eaten in moderation.
You are definitely not being misleading.
But in my country arent sushi bars… can you imagine it?
I love this kind of information Terry. I don’t know why others are being so negative. Keep up the good work! :)
The cost of take out sushi must be pretty high, paying for shipping and handling, not to mention the refrigeration to prevent it from spoiling over the flight. :P Which country would that be?
God, I love sushi! Thanks for that extra reason to enjoy what I already love eating.
i wish i could eat fish, i have to get my omegas in pill form TT TT
i never go a day, other than vacation or trips, without taking my 4 grams of fish oil. i have not yet heard of anything negative about taking fish oil pills. it’ll lube your joints a bit, help you lose weight, and has numerous other health benefits.
fish itself on the other hand has that mercury problem, but really isn’t an issue for anyone not a child or a pregnant woman.
i, myself, consume a can of tuna everyday, and i’ve yet to go crazy (mercury leads to brian disorders), and it’s been over a year now.

Sushi is my favorite heavy day(usually Sundays)after workout meal! It’s a treat in itself for a long week ahead and for giving 110% at the gym.
