How to Get Out of Your Cellphone Contract

Cell

Don’t you hate it when you sign up for a longterm cellphone contract, only to find out how bad the service is after just a couple months of use? Or maybe there’s a new cellphone you want, but it’s not offered by your current carrier, and you’re trapped in your current plan? Historically, cellphones have been like wives. Upgrading to a younger model usually meant a big drain on the wallet. But not anymore!

Did you know you can leave your cell phone contract without paying any penalty fee? The secret to doing so, is finding someone that’s willing to buy your plan from you. Finding a buyer means saving on termination fees that typically run as much as $200 a line.

Websites like Celltrade provide a matchmaking service to get you hooked up with a buyer for as little as $20. That’ll leave you a nice couple hundred bucks in your pocket, for that snazzy new cellphone you have your eye on.

    Is this really legal?

  • http://www.kineda.com Terry Ng

Yes, this is definitely legal… at least in the U.S. Contracts are transferable to another person, but most people don’t realize it when signing up.

Plus, I don’t know many people that actually read all the fine print in their contracts to notice this. ;)

Wow… this is great to know. I’m pretty happy with Cingular (or the new AT&T) but there are times that I think about switching to Verizon.

Can you hear me now? ;)

Hopefully they can expand their network into Canada, seeing that the company only focuses cellphone companies in the US.

OMG you can transfer contracts??? Thats soo great, but i like my service provide, and as for my phone, i have an unbranded phone, so the company’s perfance is the only factor for my choice of use.

The problem with getting other people’s contracts is that you’ll be missing out on the new cell phone companies out there that offer no contract for unlimited talk and text for under $50/month!! A couple of companies are: mycricket & boostmobile. I’ve created a blog that lists all the ones that I’ve found:
