Roast Goose

I’ve made it a point to find myself a plate of roast goose in Hong Kong. Last time I was here, I had no idea there was such a thing. I’ve eaten my fair share of fabulous roast duck (especially since I literally grew up in a Chinese restaurant), but I’ve never had roast goose.

My gramma told me it’d blow the socks off roast duck, and she’s right. Roast goose is intensely richer in taste and flavor than duck, although a tad bit gamier.

The only problem is that richness comes at the expense of also being extremely fatty. I could only eat two pieces before I felt like I was going to yack. I’ll think I’ll stick with plain old roast duck from now on.

I had this in mong kok also when I was there. At the random restaurant we chose, it was amazing, and I didn’t get any of the sickening feeling you described, though it was very heavy I must admit. A great meal for about $4 AUD who can complain?

Fact: It is illegal to harm or damage a Canada Geese or it’s eggs or nest, resulting to do so will empty $5000-$10,000 CAD from your wallet.

I’ve never tasted roast goose before, and roast duck is already exquisite, I’d love to try goose!

I live in Mong Kok but haven’t had the geese here. I think the geese restaurants in Tuen Mun are more well known, which is where I had it for the first time. Not so fatty from what I remember but still not my Chinese favorite.

personally, i love duck and chicken, but would always choose duck over chicken, hands down. the meat is so much more moist and flavorful, its worth the look for it.
