The Initial D Movie drifts to the Top Asian Box Office! Presented by Media Asia Films, the most anticipated summer event film Initial D opened in theatres across Asia and has instantly become the multiple record-breaker in the region. Released on June 23 in HK with 99 screens, it grossed HK$3,117,582(~400k US, which is large for a HK film) on the opening day. It toppled the 2003 record made by Media Asia’s Infernal Affaris and took the highest opening day box office record in 2005. It then grossed HK$15m in the first four days and broke a new record as the highest opening weekend grosser this year. I can’t wait to see this movie! Rumor is that there’s already a sequel in the works.
