U.S. Army soldier Kevin Garrad is pretty thankful that he was bumping some 50 Cent music on his iPod after it sacrificially took a bullet from an AK-47. The iPod slowed the bullet down enough to be stopped by the Interceptor body armor vest Garrad was wearing.
According to a report and photos posted on flickr:
“Kevin Garrad with the 3rd Infantry Division was patrolling the streets of Iraq when he rounded a corner and went face to face with a gun-toting insurance,” reports TG Daily. “Gun fire was exchanged and Garrad was hit in the chest. The insurgent was killed. At point blank range an AK-47 round is devastating and has a decent chance of passing through the Interceptor body armor vests used by Army soldiers, but the iPod apparently slowed the bullet enough to be stopped completely by Garrad’s vest”
Thank god he had one of the older 3rd gen iPods and not like a newer wimpy iPod nano.
OMG. Talk about luck. There must have been an angel looking over him.
it is not only commercial by iPod?
I’m sure Apple just earned themselves a lifelong customer. :)
Talk about coincidence with listening to 50 Cent and getting shot by a bullet..AK-47 do pack a lot of piercing damage.
HAhaa, david, exactly what i was thinking lol, getting shot by AK at point blank… Gerrad probably would have suffered a deep wound or even have died if it werent for the ipod.
Wow, I’m speechless.
Apple’s gonna shove this in Microsoft’s face. “We saved a soldier’s life! Wtf has Zune done?”
Apple don’t owe him anything, they already saved his life!
It’s like saying you get your hands on the wrong hood, or wrong side of the block, your surely will get hit by the sly AK. Lucky he is, but he’s not meant to listen to any portable music player while patrolling DUHHH!!!
lukcy he didn’t have a nano
