Japan Leads World in Fake Luxury Goods

Gucci Fake

I’ve always known that Asia has been the worst culprit when it comes to producing and selling fake luxury goods. However, I didn’t know that Japan was leading the pack.

Luxury brands including Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Bulgari, Rolex and Cartier, are losing an estimated (U.S.) $4.3 billion a year in Japan from the sale of fake designer goods over the internet.

More than half the luxury-branded goods sold over the internet in Japan are fakes. This is the worst level of abuse in Asia, said Laurent Dubois, chairman of the Japanese arm of the Union des Fabricants, a global association set up to fight counterfeiting.

The problem stems from Japan’s legal system, which allows the import of fake goods at long as they’re for “personal use.”

Faking Rolex and Cartier? Is that possible?
Faking watches by using lower grade metals, lower carat golds, um still requires a fair amount of work. I assume they don’t fake CHRONOGRAPHs cause the technology involved is a tad to complicated. Good thing I don’t buy anything luxury goods over the internet. Have to buy them in store so that if anything goes wrong, I can go back.

What’s the point in buying fake? If you can’t afford it, don’t get it. It’ll just make you look dumb when you’re found out! :p

I’ve bought a few fake Tag Heuer watcheswhen I went back to HK for vacation. They even fake the chronographs. The cheaper ones just copy the look, but the “A” grade copies have working chronos. Well, they don’t totally work, but at least the hands move. If you look closely, or compare the real thing next to the fake ones, you can tell they’re fake. However, from afar I’ve fooled quite a few people. Also, the inside of the watch is really cheap if you open the backing. They use cheap parts instead of real automatic swisses. It’s fun though for the price, but I wouldn’t try to pass it off as the real thing.

I think tt buying fakes are the worst. Not onl it just shows tt ur a loser & a fashion faux pas, it also proves tt you canot afford it wen ppl find out it’s fake. Double the embarassment.

a lot of the originals are made to poor standards in the same sweatshops anyway ,at least with fakes you pay a more realistic price
