Script totally sux till he get's the evoVIII, all dialog before then sounds like it came straight out of a porno...where sex is replaced with racing.

"You looking at my car?"
"Yeah"
"Let's race!"

Other then that I think the action was alright. The mustang would never work tho. Too big, too much ground clearance...cool cameo from the REAL drift king Keiichi Tsuchiya (yes they call him the drift king)

Isn't that always the case with these kind of movies? I'm sure it'll be entertaining to watch, but Hollywood is notorious for representing the asian culture incorrectly.

Since this is released all over the country there's no doubt that asian fever will strike. There's many places around the us that have very little asian population and guys will just find them "exotic" :\

what's pretty unimpressive is how unrealistic the movie is. hardly anyone drifts in tokyo. i have a friend who lives there; it's just to damn crowded. he tells me it also damages the perception of japanese and all asian women. just looking at the film, it's going to make males jump on the asian fever bandwagon. (don't ge me wrong, love is love; but the asian fever is just ridiculous)

girls from tokyo don't even look like that half the time. take my word for it, i've met many girls from tokyo. also, just looking at the previews and all the pictures, you can tell half the extra girls are not japanese. they are mostly chinese. it's the same deal as the Memoris of a Geisha, japanese actresses and japanese girls are not inclined to do this sort of acting.

but what makes me upset the most is how hollywood-ized the driving is. they stuck computers inside the cars to automatically program the drifts. there's no "live action." and a good number of the scenes are computer graphics. also, some of the drift stunts are taken from other asian movies. one being, from dragon squad; the scene where one car drifts in a semicircle to go into reverse facing the oncoming car while the driver shoots at the oncoming car.

the chinese produced Initial D had real action. i recall reading an interview with Jay Chou. he actually was driving throughout most of the movie. in fact, he did a good number of the drifts. the only thing that kept him back was when he drifted to far on one of the hairpin turns and the car flipped over the guardrail and rolled down the hill.

i'll see the movie for what it is, but i can guarantee you at least two things will happen: 1) more guys will want to get a japanese or asian babe as a trophy girl. 2) you'll see more people trying to drift their cars or get into drifting and get it all wrong.

That's pretty impressive after only doing two films to land a deal with such a large budget.
