Motorola today announced a special edition of the new RAZR2, available in limited quantities, in time to celebrate the holiday season in style. The signature RAZR2 form factor has been re-imagined and reconfigured in the most luxurious materials — bathed in gold and clothed in snake-like skin, and includes a full suite of features and accessories for conscious consumers seeking a glamorous design.
The special edition of RAZR2 comes complete with a black slate Motorola H680 Bluetooth headset with 18K gold-plated accents out-of-box. With up to approximately 8 hours of talk time, the petite H680 is the perfect companion to the special edition RAZR2. A wired stereo headset for music enjoyment, a matching patent leather carrying case with mini strap, and a polishing cloth are also included out-of-box.
In addition to its luxury look, the RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition sports Motorola’s CrystalTalk technology, Quadband GSM support, Opera Mobile Browser 8.5 and a 2-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom. The phone also offers up to 2GB of memory capacity through optional microSD cards, and synchronizes with Windows Media Player 11 for music and video playback.
The Motorola RAZR2 V8 Luxury Edition is expected to be available beginning in the fourth quarter of 2007.

The faux-analog clockface is very classy. Usually the gold would stink of flamboyance, but on the cover it nicely highlights the black, just enough to turn it into an elegant black.
I don’t like the gold phone-pad rim. It suffer from too much metallic just like the original does, except here the gold just makes it worse.

I honestly have to say, RAZR V8 Luxury edition has finally impressed me, as compared to the other RAZRs. It has OPERA browser and is able to syncronize with WMP11, thats a huge improvement as compared to the other RAZRs. As for the aesthetics, the front is smooth, and the gold is used sparingly, to give the impression of it being expensive. The gold is a rouge gold, and its deepness makes the phone more sophisticated. I’d say, Moto’s finally getting their design team’s creative juices flowing! Luxury Indeed

Personally, I don’t like it. I’ve never really been a fan of Motorola cell phones, and the advent of the RAZR era wasn’t really all that amazing to me, although it revolutionized the industry for it’s compactness (at least in thickness), girlish style (god how many pink RAZRs are out there encrusted in rhinestones) and fantastic marketing approach. Despite this, I don’t think I’ve ever felt the shape to be particularly aesthetically pleasing, nor do I find it nice to look at. The keys look ridiculous and I doubt Motorola’s done anything to improve their interface. I just wish they would quit dicking around and release a phone that’s just as good in quality as it is in mainstream appeal, instead of (re-)releasing a slightly modified version of version #1…you know…in gold…because it’s different that way.
