The ground-breaking Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj ($430) is expected to shake up the compact digital camera market as people begin to see the benefits of sharing and viewing photos and videos using personal projection. The COOLPIX S1000pj doesn’t just pack a punch with its projector – the compact camera delivers high resolution images with 12.1 effective megapixels and a 2.7” wide viewing-angle TFT LCD monitor. With a high ISO 6400 sensitivity and using Nikon’s exclusive image processing concept, EXPEED, the camera offers the kind of high quality images you expect from Nikon. This is all wrapped up in a sleek aluminium silver or anodized black casing that contains a wide-angle 5x zoom NIKKOR lens.
A personal projection is a really good idea, it allows the photos to be viewed on spot by a larger audience rather than having 2 or 3 people crowd beside the camera. I won’t expect the projection to be perfectly sharp though, and projection will probably drain more battery life. I wonder what the projected surface is limited to, and the conditions required( I suspect a dim area).

@Allan: The main function of a camera is take quality pictures, by adding a projector to a camera, they’re just increasing the overall cost of the camera (with no real benefit) – which I find pointless. Nikon should concentrate on enhancing other features, image stabilization or what not.
No way, 10 minutes of projection and the battery is running out! (in my opinion)

I think a camera with a projection function is really good thinking! But of course if the battery rounds out after ten minutes.. it’s no good! but would definitely consider it next time I need a new camera.. By the way, think this video gives a good idea of how it works.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fK4f_lbUgk
