Wedding Bells

The premiere of “The Wedding Bells” aired last night right after American Idol at 9 p.m and I really liked the first episode.

I am not certain that men will like it but I think women can appreciate this show especially if you went through the wedding planning process already, or particularly, if you are in the business, it becomes quite humorous. Trust me, I have seen my share of “bridezillas” and last night’s episode showed the epitome of a bridezilla!

The Bell sisters, played by KaDee Strickland, Sarah Jones and Teri Polo, run a family-owned, upscale wedding planning business. The siblings inherited the family firm, a swanky mansion called the Wedding Palace, when their parents divorced. Now it’s up to them to build the business, with marketing help from Russell Hawkins, Jane’s husband.

Other characters in the show include ever so charming photographer David Conlon, wedding singer Ralph Snow, and Chef Ernesto, who constantly flirts with Jane.

David E. Kelley, Creator of “Ally McBeal,” “Boston Legal,” and “The Practice” says: “There’s always been something funny at every wedding I’ve ever been at so it seemed like a natural. I must say, when I flew in this morning, the pilot stopped me and said, ‘I see your shows and I’m a big fan of your work. Are you doing something new?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m working on a comedy about weddings.’ He said, ‘Weddings? What’s funny about that?’ So maybe it’s more tragic for some people depending on their perspective. A situation that’s designed to be perfect and orchestrated seems like a recipe for comic disaster.”

So far I’m diggin this show. It’s not my absolute favorite but there isn’t a show out there like this one. Besides, its fun to watch!

I’m not sure how this show is going to do compared to the other tv shows out there. A show dedicated to weddings isn’t my cup of tea. Interesting idea.
