Introduced in 1969 as the “PRO-Keds Super,” the 69er ($90) was the first classic sneaker for New Yorkers on and off the court. Through the early to mid 70′s, the 69ers were extremely popular both on the playground and on the street. They became known as the original “Uptowns” with kids in Harlem & the Bronx. As famous they were on the basketball courts, they became a signature of style as they began to be worn by the pioneers of hip-hop.
