Google Launches Chromebook Pixel Laptop

Google announced today its own Chrome OS-based laptop called the Chromebook Pixel. The Chromebook Pixel features a unibody design similar to Apple’s MacBook Pro. The 12.85-inch touchscreen with 3:2 aspect ratio features a whopping 2,560 x 1,700 pixel resolution at 239 pixels per inch (ppi). The laptop is made from anodized aluminum alloy and has a backlit keyboard and a touchpad etched from glass. The Chromebook Pixel is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor and has a 32 gigabyte solid-state drive (64GB for the LTE model). Pricing starts at $1,299 and will begin shipping next week.

Google Wallet Replaces Cash and Credit Cards

Google unvieled Google Wallet for Android enabled phones today, a near-field communication (NFC) payment service. They’ve partnered with Mastercard and over 20,000 retail merchants including Bloomingdales, Foot Locker, Subway, Jack In The Box, and Peets Coffee & Tea to name a few. Say goodbye to having to carry cash and credit cards, well as soon as they release it for the iPhone as well that is!

The wait for Google Chrome for Mac users is finally over. Grab your beta copy today and experience a web browser than runs web pages and applications with lighting speed. The only downside at the moment is that Chrome for Mac is still missing a few features that are in the Windows version — the most important being support for extensions.

I’ve been using it all morning, and it’s a pure delight to feel like I’ve doubled the speed of my internet connection for free!

In an effort to ease the privacy concerns of implementing Google Streetview for Japan, Google has created a super slick and friendly stop motion advertisement. The ad which is basically a mini movie, shows how Google Streetview is made and the efforts taken to censor personal information.

T-Mobile G1 – Google’s Android Phone

Google’s new T-Mobile G1 ($179) is the first phone to run Google’s new Android mobile operation system. It may be the first real competitor to Apple’s iPhone. Like Apple’s product, it’s a serious handheld computer with a clever touch-based user interface. Similar to Apple’s App Store for the iPhone, the G1 will be able to access the Android Market for 3rd part apps.

The phone sports a 3-inch touchscreen, a slide-out QWERTY keypad, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and a 3-megapixel camera. It will be sold in the U.S. starting next month by T-Mobile, for $179 with a two-year contract.

Google CEO Larry Page Gets Married

Last week (Dec. 8), Google co-founder Larry Page (34) married Lucy Southworth (27), a doctoral student at Stanford University. The two tried their best to keep the marriage a secret affair, but Google’s own search engine revealed the the couple would be getting married on Necker Island, Richard Branson’s 74-acre estate in the Virgin Islands.

With Larry Page’s worth of $20 billion, I hope his lawyers created a rock solid prenuptial agreement since the two have only dated for a little over a year.

Way to go Lucy for locking down the richest bachelor in Silicon Valley!

Average Google Employee is Worth $276,000

According to Techcrunch, anyone who joined Google a year ago is worth, on average, $276,000. But that’s not as crazy as The New York Times citing that 1,000 out of the 16,000 Google employees are worth more than $5 million. At the current price of $662/share, those stock grants and options are sure paying off!

Working for Google is Like Not Working at All

Oprah takes us on a tour of what it’s like to what at Googleplex, the company headquarters of Google. If you thought your company had perks, you’re wrong. Googleplex is outfitted with gyms, on-site doctors, dry cleaners, free laundry rooms, two swimming pools, a sand volleyball court, and nearly a dozen cafeterias that charge nothing for the food!

It’s a no-brainer why Fortune magazine just named Google the #1 place to work in the United States. This final quote in the video sums the experience of working at Google:

“I love working at Google. Itâ€™s the next best thing to probably not working at all.”
