Taiwan pop singer Stefanie Sun and Jolin Tsai are being considered by a film company to compete as car racers in film which would be the debut for both stars.

The new film is dubbed the female version of “Initial D”, a 2005 movie which earned positive box office results as well as thumbs-up for pop king Jay Chow, according to a report on the news portal sina.com.

Negotiation about actresses is still underway, and the two singers have not confirmed their participation yet. But if succesful, it will be Jolin and Stephanie’s first apperance in a car racing movie.

The new film will be directed by Chun-Chun Wong (黄真真) and choreographed by action master Bruce Law (罗礼贤), and will start shooting in the second half of this year. The leading actresses, once confirmed, will have to receive a series of racecar training sessions beforehand.

The film’s choreographer, Bruce Law said that the choice of leading actresses had not been confirmed, but the company highly praised the potential and skill flexibility of the two popular singers.

The manager of Jolin Tsai’s company, surnamed Jiang, said the singer’s starring role was a not bad idea, but they had not received any formal contact from the film company.

Initial D the Movie is now available on DVD! For five years, 18-year-old Takumi has been delivering tofu in his father’s obsolescent Toyota AE86 every morning. The Initial D Movie drifts to the Top Asian Box Office! Presented by Media Asia Films, the most anticipated summer event film Initial D opened in theatres across Asia and has instantly become the multiple record-breaker in the region. Released on June 23 in HK with 99 screens, it grossed HK$3,117,582(~400k US, which is large for a HK film) on the opening day. It toppled the 2003 record made by Media Asia’s Infernal Affaris and took the highest opening day box office record in 2005. It then grossed HK$15m in the first four days and broke a new record as the highest opening weekend grosser this year. I can’t wait to see this movie! Rumor is that there’s already a sequel in the works.

The INITIAL D Race Queen Pageant Local Finals was held successfully last Saturday at Bishan Junction 8 with 2 gorgeous contestants winning the closely fought contest! The local INITIAL D Race Queen Pageant is one of the many campaigns lined up for the movie INITIAL D, starring Jay Chou, Edison Chen, Anne Suzuki and directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak.

The event last Saturday attracted a 1,500 strong crowd at Bishan Junction 8. After a series of performance and Q&As, the winners of the local pageant are Contestant No.1 Tai Pei Ren, age 19 and Contestant No.7 Pang Jia Ying, age 20. Both winners were presented with $1,000 cash prize, a Casio Exilim digital camera and the chance to participate in the Initial D Race Queen Asian Finals held in Beijing.

Pei Ren and Jia Ying will be going to Beijing this Sunday to meet up with Asian Superstar Jay Chou, along with 18 other finalists from the region. the 2 Singaporean finalists will also compete with another 18 from the region for the top three spots: cash prize and a prestigious Media Asia movie contract for each of the final three winners. The 3 eventual winners will be announced in mid June 2005 and will join the cast of INITIAL D for its’ World Gala Premiere in Beijing on 19 June 2005.

Initial D opens in theatres all over Asia on 23 June.
