U.S. Army soldier Kevin Garrad is pretty thankful that he was bumping some 50 Cent music on his iPod after it sacrificially took a bullet from an AK-47. The iPod slowed the bullet down enough to be stopped by the Interceptor body armor vest Garrad was wearing.

According to a report and photos posted on flickr:

“Kevin Garrad with the 3rd Infantry Division was patrolling the streets of Iraq when he rounded a corner and went face to face with a gun-toting insurance,” reports TG Daily. “Gun fire was exchanged and Garrad was hit in the chest. The insurgent was killed. At point blank range an AK-47 round is devastating and has a decent chance of passing through the Interceptor body armor vests used by Army soldiers, but the iPod apparently slowed the bullet enough to be stopped completely by Garrad’s vest”

Thank god he had one of the older 3rd gen iPods and not like a newer wimpy iPod nano.

Apple does it again with the iPod Nano! Take everything you love about iPod and shrink it. Now shrink it again. With 2GB (500 songs) and 4GB (1,000 songs) models starting at $199, the pencil-thin iPod nano packs the entire iPod experience into an impossibly small design. So small, it will take your music places you never dreamed of. Never before has something so small held so many possibilities. Up to 1,000 songs. Full-color album art and photos. Podcasts. Audiobooks. Games, clocks, contacts and calendars. All in an iPod that weighs less than a single CD case. Now that’s huge.

The Nyko MoviePlayer is a sophisticated peripheral that transforms the iPod into a complete entertainment hub, allowing users to transfer, play, and store movies, video, recorded TV, and photos on their iPod hard drive . Nyko’s MoviePlayer gives iPod owners new freedom and the most immersive portable entertainment experience available today. Switch from movies, photos and music at the push of a button. The MoviePlayer is a stylishly-designed unit consisting of a backlit 3.6-inch, 65,000 color, high-definition TFT screen, built-in hi-fi stereo speakers, and easy-to-use playback controls.

A built in rechargeable lithium ion battery adds an additional three hours of playtime to the iPod, allowing the user to watch several full-length movies on one charge. The unit attaches to the iPod via the dock connector, and the included PC/Mac compatible software converts any movie, video, photo or digital media file for use on the Movie Player. For safe and easy storage, the screen closes like a case, protecting itself and the iPod. The Movie Player is compatible with all full size iPods, and iPod minis.
