Nikon has finally launched the D800, a 36.3MP FX-format CMOS sensor camera capable of Full HD 1080p video at 30/25/24p with stereo sound. To show off the D800′s broadcast quality video capability, Nikon produced this awesome short five minute film, “Joy Ride.”

Nikon drops a white color version of the Nikon 1 V1 mirrorless camera. The new color will be able in stores soon.

The Nikon D4 ($6000) has finally arrived and is Nikon’s new flagship DSRL. Here are the technical highlights:

Nikon has released a twenty second commercial for their new compact 1 Camera featuring 2NE1′s Sandara Park.

I have always loved time-lapse footage, and films like Koyaanisqatsi especially, which allow you to look at human spaces in different ways, and draw comparisons between patterns at differing scales. I also really liked the tilt-shift look of making large scenes feel small, and wanted to make a film using this technique with New York as its subject.

The Sandpit

The ground-breaking Nikon COOLPIX S1000pj ($430) is expected to shake up the compact digital camera market as people begin to see the benefits of sharing and viewing photos and videos using personal projection. The COOLPIX S1000pj doesn’t just pack a punch with its projector – the compact camera delivers high resolution images with 12.1 effective megapixels and a 2.7” wide viewing-angle TFT LCD monitor. Here’s guerrilla marketing at it’s best. Taking a cue from our celebrity-obsessed culture, Nikon created a life-like billboard filled with life-like images of paparazzi for the launch of the D700 in Korea. As a potential consumer passes by, the billboard springs to life with multiple flashes light, giving them a feeling of being a true celebrity. Ad placement was also well thought out. The pathway of the red carpet they are walking on leads them right into a store near the Seoul subway station, where they can purchase the Nikon D700. Simply brilliant!

With a few tweaks of Nikon’s SDK, it seems likes HD video might not be too far fetched after all. Take a look at the sample videos below. Although not quite HD yet, I’m sure the Nikon hackers will figure it out soon enough.

Nikon D700 Video Samples

A couple weeks ago I mentioned a rumor that Nikon would be releasing a new full frame DSLR. That rumor is now true. Nikon announced the release of the D700 ($2,999) today — the company’s newest pro-level digital SLR camera.

Falling between the Nikon D3 and D300, the D700 features a 12.1-effective megapixel Nikon FX-format sensor and a native ISO range of 200 to 6400. The camera also features a 3-inch super-density 920,000-dot VGA color screen, Nikon’s EXPEED Image Processing System, Nikon’s 51-point auto focus system, two Live View shooting modes, a Scene Recognition System, and a new active dust reduction system.

Full frame without the D3 weight. What more could you ask for?

Rumors are flying around the photography blogs this morning about the release of the supposed Nikon D700 Full Frame DSLR. Features and specs from the leaked promotional material show a striking similarity to the flagship Nikon D3, but in a smaller and cheaper package ($2999). If this turns out to be true, the three-year-old Canon 5D will finally have a direct competitor on it’s hands.
