Original Penguin, the vintage inspired menswear line has opened a pop-up retail store in New York City’s SoHo district. The temporary space will carry a full selection of men’s product with clothing ranging from dressier items such as suits, to very casual graphic tees, denim and loungewear. Accessories such as footwear, hats, watches and small leather goods will also be available.

The 3,200 square foot loft- style location features 5 fitting rooms and a lounge with mid-century Danish furniture, which fits in perfectly with the brand’s retro aesthetic. Other touches include authentic 1950’s & 1960’s photos and artwork from the companies archive in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Original Penguin SoHo is located at 103 Greene Street between Prince Street and Spring Street. Hours of operation are 11am- 7pm (Monday – Saturday) and 12pm-6pm (Sunday). The pop up shop will remain open until December 31st.

Shake Shack is a modern day burger stand located in the middle of Madison Square Park in New York. Not the usual place you’d find a burger stand, but it’s a huge hit with the locals and tourists. Tami and I wanted to try this place out after watching Samantha Brown cover it on her Travel channel show.

The burgers are delicious and the fries are nice and crisp. People say it’s the best damn burger in New York. It was good, but I’ve definitely had better. I prefer my burger’s charbroiled like they do at Kirk’s Steakburgers in Palo Alto, CA.

It was still a great experience and worth a try if you’re in the NYC area. Where else can you buy a burger in the middle of a park and enjoy a bit of nature?

To avoid the long lines, you can check the webcam on their website before you arrive. Luckily we did, because the line started to wrap around the block soon after we got there!

Just got back from New York last night and had the most amazing ramen ever! April marks the one year anniversary of Ippudo NY, where they serve up an “Anniversary Special” ($15) made from a sinful mix of silky chicken and tonkatsu broth. It’s then topped off with slices of smoked pork, gobo chips, hard boiled egg, kikurage, and scallions.

This bowl of pure ramen delight blew away anything I’ve ever had in San Francisco or Tokyo. Ippudo should seriously consider making this a permanent item on their menu.

Tami had miso ramen which was also very good, but definitely not as rich and tasty as their Annivesary Special.

We also tried their pork bun appetizer plate which was excellent — rich in flavor without being extremely fatty, topped with house bbq sauce and wrapped in a steamed white bun.

The ambiance reminded me of modern Tokyo ramen houses with friendly Japanese waiters and waitresses at your service. If you’re a ramen lover and ever in New York City, you must try Ippudo located at 65 4th Avenue between 9th and 10th street.

There’s always a line, so be sure to show up early before the doors open to avoid a long wait.
