The Ongoing Craze of Boba Tea

In major cities across North America, you will now discover many trendsetters sipping from giant straws black marble-sized tapioca balls served with colorful tea blends. Referred to as “tapioca pearl” or “Boba drinks,” many consumers have snatched up these new beverages as a refreshing alternative to the overly abundant coffee stores.

For over 10 years, Boba Tea has swept the Asian markets and has recently successfully infiltrated major cosmopolitan cities in North America including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Seattle and Vancouver. Although still a new concept in the American market, Boba Tea has already proven to strike a harmonious chord with American consumers.

The latest trends have included infusing boba with coffee and cream, coffee mixed with tea, shakes, and slushes. Due to the chewy nature of boba and these novel flavors, Boba drinks are fun and trendy refreshments when shopping, working, driving, or just hanging out with friends.

I think they have been a trend for a while, or it could just be me. But they are great drinks anyways! Today I had a Strawberry Peark Milk Tea from Tapioca Express. Boba shops can be found in just about any city around the Bay Area, not just the big cities.

Their popularity certainly has plateaued with the inundation of numerous providers in the market, ranging from dollar shops to paying nearly $5.00 for a cup with whatever gimmicks attached. For some reason, referring to boba as “bubble tea” really annoys me.

The only milk tea flavors I ever get are Jasmine or Green Tea with boba. I think strawberry might be next on the list.
