The Sandpit

The Sandpit is a video composed of 35,000 tilt-shift photographs taken in New York City taken with a Nikon D3. Director Sam O’Hare describes his project:

I have always loved time-lapse footage, and films like Koyaanisqatsi especially, which allow you to look at human spaces in different ways, and draw comparisons between patterns at differing scales. I also really liked the tilt-shift look of making large scenes feel small, and wanted to make a film using this technique with New York as its subject.

He used a special tilt-shift lens that allows you to have selective focus. Great for simulating a miniature scene.

I wonder how much time did he spent with this.

Amazing. I want to do my own time lapse video, but I really don’t want to put 10,000+ shutters on my d700 just for a video. I really love the PC-E tilt shift lenses, it’s so amazing. I think these videos are perfect use for them.
