Thread Show

This weekend Tami and I embarked to the San Francisco Galleria to cover Thread Show. For those that haven’t heard of Threadshow SF, it’s an event that showcases emerging independent fashion designers.

Threadshow

After last year’s fiasco of the Thread Show staff not being able to find our press credentials, we made sure to register early on their site to avoid any problems at the door. Unfortunately, it was a case of deja vu. The nice lady that greeted us said that their was no Terry, Tami or Kineda on the press list and that entrance would be $10 for the each of us. I then mentioned that I spoke with Alex Matthews (Director of Operations) over e-mail as well as registering on the site. Lucky for us, Alex was sitting right to her! Or maybe not so lucky.

Thread Show

Unfortunately, Alex had no recollection of our e-mail conversations or registration. He told us it’s probably because of the thousands of e-mails he receives and that many people like to fake their way into the show. Why anyone would want to fake their way into a $10 show is beyond me. After asking for our business cards, and showing him our Kineda credentials, we were let into the show.

I don’t want the bad handling of press registration to reflect on the entire show, because the designers and boutique shop owners that attend this event are fantastic. However, after having a sour entrance for the second time, I can’t say we’ll be covering this show again in the future.

Damn that sucks. I’d probably just walk out and not even cover the show after that.

That sucks about the entrance troubles, but it does look like a fun show.

Wouldnt be crazy if it happened again next year? I think you should try it out :P

Any good designers? I remember you had a large list last year.

    It’s not gonna happen for a 3rd time. I won’t let it. ;)

I actually didn’t take a close look at the designers this year, but from what I could see the quality was as good as last year’s or better.

Bad way to treat press if they’re looking for good reviews of their show!

I went last year, it was alright…I was planning to go this year, but I checked the line-up of brands attending, and I wasn’t impressed. However, the photos show the brands that were not even mentioned! Last time, they didn’t even have the “shoe/sneaker” bar area that they said they would –it pisses me off how they have it now. >:( What did they give out for gift bags this time? Thanks for covering this!

Upper Playground was the bag sponsor this year. The bags varied in what they had inside. I think a bottle of some spritzer water, a bunch of catalogs, and magazines. Nothing special.

Yeah, I would’ve just walked away too. Then you could write a bad review, then email Alex Matthews a link to the bad review. ;)
