Uniqlo UT Vending Machine T-Shirts – Tokyo, Japan

Uniqlo UT

You can buy sodas, ramen, or pretty much anything that fits into a can or tube from vending machines in Tokyo, so why not t-shirts?

Uniqlo UT

That’s the concept behind the UT Uniqlo T-shirt Project created by Kashiwa Sato. Each uniquely designed pop culture t-shirt comes in a transparent cannister, that can be purchased from various vending machines throughout the Harajuku store.

Now that’s a pretty slick idea! Store design looks really cool. I’d love to see it in person some day!

I LOVE UNIQLO! I’ve never been to the one in Tokyo, but I did visit their flagship store in NYC last year.

The one in NYC wasn’t really vending machines though. They just look like vending machines, but are actually shelves with little led numbers under each style of shirt.

It’d be cool if there was a giant button under each shirt and it actually popped out like a can of soda! :p

Oh, I remember this shop, I heard about it a long time ago. I’ve never actually been in th Uniqlo store, but the design is very STRAIGHT EDGED and Sharp cornered. I wonder if they can fit jeans into canisters next? That would be awesome. Only problem with canistered clothing is… you can’t test it.

When I first glanced at this post, I saw “UT” and tons of orange themed clothing/containers, so my first thought (living in Texas) was that UT Longhorn pride jumped across the ocean.

In any case, my girlfriend went to their NYC store and was very excited about their selection. So more props to their marketing and product placement.

    vending machines! so cool…

they have really good jeans… i’d sell my soul for a pair. nice cashmere shirts, too – plus they have a plethora of color choices.

i hope they consider opening a store here in SF :)

    Wow,

when they say to look outside the box..they not only look outside the box they recreate it by doing something only the Japanese are capable of doing, I believe designing products in Japan would be one of the most desirable jobs ever..cos not only are the products great..but the packaging you wouldn’t wanna throw away..:)

what a great way to market..sell a product using another product everyone is familiar with…genius
