With Thundercats, Speed Racer, and Voltron, the 80’s own the title of “The Most Badass Cartoons Ever Produced.” Voltron skyrocketted to the #1 cartoon spot when it was released in 1984, and created a merchandising frenzy in the toy industry. The original Voltron diecast metal set, “Godaikin Golion” by Bandai is going for $1000 these days on eBay! Luckily, I never opened mine as badly as I wanted to play with it. It was pretty much the predecessor of the power rangers (another japanese originated show).

Basically, the Lion Voltron protected the universe. However, they found a far, distant planet that may have been habitable, so they created another — the Vehicle Voltron — as a set of 15 exploration vehicles to protect planets far far away.
There was a two-part episode entitled, “Fleet of Doom” where both Voltrons come together to fight side by side.

Back in d good old days of 1990’s, I tuned to it, admired it, even wished I can be one of the team. Voltron is like robots ‘not’ on dope. Transformers have steroids. What the heck! Maybe organize ROBOT OLYMPICS.?! Anyway, either way both are fantastic cartoon spectacles. But 2 thumbs up for Voltron. Numba one ~ even beat the power rangers for ORIGINALITY.
