You Don’t Have to Win American Idol to be Famous

Katherine McPhee

MTV has a great article on “Does Winning ‘American Idol’ Matter?” Of course it doesn’t matter! Many second and third place winners go on to lead an even better career than those that win first place.

Take a look at the success from Season 5 of American Idol, where Katherine McPhee and Chris Daughtry both lost to Taylor Hicks, but who’s careers have far surpassed his after the competition.

Daughtry released a self-titled debut that has sold more than 2 million copies easily eclipsing the 700,000 sold by Hicks and Hollywood can’t seem to get enough of McPhee.

You don’t even need to know how to sing to be famous on that show. Just look at Sanjaya! The guy was HORRIBLE but people loved him. :(

What’s wrong with writing about American Idol? I think it’s an entertaining show that promotes talented folks that normally couldn’t make it on their own. The whole jist of the post is just my opinion that you don’t have to be number one on the show to be successful.

Actually american idol is a good place to gather people with talent, and let them get known, so if your singing stands out, who cares if you win or not, you can just enter for the experience and learn to sing in front of large audiences.

It’s true that you don’t have to win to get famous. Any one remember William Hung?

I’ve got the first album of Daughtry and I have to say it’s really well composed. I never heard of Taylor Hicks before, first winner’s aren’t always big. Now, I gotta look for McPhee’s album!

thats right, in my country we have similiar competition and the winner – i dont know her name – is nothing. However, the girl who get to 5th place is a star.
